  1. Johnnie Walker was originally called Walker's Kilmarnock Whisky. It was a blended whisky and a direct response to the John Walker's displeasure at the inconsistency of the single malts of the day. Walker open and operated his grocery store from age 14, from proceeds he got after selling his father's farm.
  2. Helen and Elizabeth Cardhu are responsible for the success of Cardhu distillery and its running to 1893, when Elizabeth sold it to Alexander Walker of Johnnie Walker.
  3. Japanese whisky owes its global popularity to 2 Japanese whisky pioneers Masataka Taketsuru and Shinjiro Torii who founded the most recognized Japanese whisky brands: Suntory and Nikka.

  7. General Edward Dyer, of the East India Company built Kasauli Distillery to produce whisky and shipped in equipment from England and Scotland – it is believed to be the oldest distillery in Asia. In 1855, the brewery was dismantled and moved to Solan and like Strathisla, it’s been in continuously producing Solan No.1 Single Malt. Today it is called Mohan Meakin Limited.
